First, we recognise the importance of trusting God and letting go of resentment, worry, and fear to maintain good health. This brings us to the second biblical factor for good health: confessing my sins benefits my well-being. Any psychologist will tell you that clearing your conscience and expressing what’s in your heart is essential. Our bodies are not designed to hold these burdens. When you keep guilt inside, it’s like shaking up a soda can with the lid on; eventually, it will explode.
David describes this experience in Psalm 32:3-5: “When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, and I groaned all day long. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone.” David internalised his guilt, and it had a physical effect on him.
If you don’t discuss your problems, guilt, or bitterness with God, this tension will manifest in your body. Many doctors suggest that numerous people could leave the hospital today if they knew how to let go of guilt or resentment—whether it comes from their actions or the actions of others.
Take a moment today to pray, asking God to forgive you for the wrongs you’ve done to others. Then, pray about any resentment or bitterness against those who have hurt you. Ask God to help you forgive them, enabling you to move toward better health.
