AceBreakingNews – A plane crash in Brazil’s northern Amazon state on Saturday has left 14 dead, the state’s governor said.

The accident took place in the Barcelos province, some 400km from the state capital, Manaus.

The small plane’s pilot was approaching the remote town in heavy rain, with low visibility, Amazonas state security secretary Vinicius Almeida said. 

The plane appeared to inadvertently start landing halfway down the runway, but ran out of landing strip and crashed, he said. 

The plane was carrying 12 Brazilian men travelling to the region for seasonal sport fishing, along with a pilot and co-pilot, leaving no survivors. 

It was making the 90-minute flight from Manaus to Barcelos. 

Officials said two aircraft approaching Barcelos around the same time had returned to Manaus because of the weather.

“I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members who were victims of the plane crash in Barcelos on Saturday,” said Wilson Lima, Governor of Amazonas state on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Our teams have been working from the outset to provide the necessary support. My sympathy and prayers go out to their families and friends.”

The Brazilian air force and police will investigate the crash, authorities said, adding that many details were still unclear.

The Manaus Aerotaxi airline issued an initial statement confirming there had been an accident.

The statement did not offer any details about deaths or injuries.

“We count on respect for the privacy of those involved at this difficult time and will be available to provide all necessary information and updates as the investigation progresses,” the statement said.
