#AceNewsDesk – British singer-songwriter Rex Orange County, aka Alexander O’Conner, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault, according to a report from UK outlet The Sun.
Mr. O’Conner allegedly assaulted a woman between June 1 and 2, twice in London’s West End, once in a taxi, and three times at his home in the neighborhood of Notting Hill.
The artist appeared in London’s Southwark Crown Court on Monday and pled not guilty to all charges.
“Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” a representative for the musician said in a statement released to media.
“He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”
The singer-songwriter was released on unconditional bail ahead of a three-day provisional trial set for January 3, 2023.
In July of this year, Mr O’Conner announced on his social media that he was cancelling scheduled tour dates in Australia, New Zealand and Europe due to “unforeseen personal circumstances”.
“I am having to spend some time at home this year and I will not be able to continue with touring as planned,” Mr O’Connor wrote at the time.
“This is the last thing I want to do. I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.”
An alumnus of the prestigious London creative arts collage BRIT School, Mr O’Conner self-released his first album, Bcos U Will Never B Free, in 2015.
This led him to collaborate with US musician Tyler, The Creator on the album Flower Boy which contributed to his international popularity.
Mr O’Conner self-released a second album in 2017, before he was signed to Sony subsidiary label RCA Records to release his third and fourth album in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
As Rex Orange County, Mr O’Conner has toured Australia in 2019 for Laneway Festival. His announced 2020 Australian headline tour was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
