The Trick 🎯

“THE TRICK”  a poem for the day after Easter (April 13, 2020)

Life’s somber lesson.  “Life gives   and then it takes away,”

Sometimes the sky is blue, and sometimes it is gray.

The sun shines and then quite soon?  we have some rain.

Who knows why   there is comfort    and then there’s pain.

Your future’s bright, with hands strong and eyes without strain;

Before too long, strength, it wears.  Yes it starts to wane. Dismal feelings fail

I ran and ran with smiles, laughter, and, of course, I’d jump,

And off and on the field  with boys and girls, often we would bump.

Off and on.  Occasionally. and then more with frowns we’re met.

With less of humor and exaltation for for most is set,

The mind, filled with showers, too soon will I regret.

To whom shall I appeal?  “Do not withdraw; please let,

Me hang onto those things I have acquired?

Or grown used to.  Of loves and lovers I am not tired.”

No answer comes, so I forlorn, No answer comes, so I forlorn,

May then regret for some time?  The day that I was born.

The trick then?  (IF there is one.)  This is what I say:

“Don’t get too upset.”  

It won’t do a bit of good, not a bit anyway.

You have then there, your lesson, regarding what is lost.

Can you get not too upset, as in this life you’re tossed?

What you have lost, what you hold dear.

A sphere of sorrows   and of fond memory,

The fondest sympathy to my Tea Pot 🥳🥳
