Ha I remember the day
Many years ago or so
You stood before me
Head turned to the floor
Downcast eyes
Your face gently looked up
In videomatic slow motion
Eyes enormous
Lips whimpering in silence
Cheeks rose in fresh bloom
Face uneasy expectation
A look of apprehension
Your lips faltered on the magic phrase
As you uttered it, a catch in your throat
I was tarrying for the moment
Two hearts marrying in sweet torment
You looked worried, apologetic
I’d say no, I’d refuse you
But you didn’t know,
I wanted to say I love you too
But was afraid, you’d say no
And me lose a fine friend
I responded to the magic phrase
Positively, tenderly, without cease
And before you could say boo
We were in each other’s arms
Heart and bodies in blend
With a love godsend
