In the past, there lived an elderly Cherokee who imparted valuable insight to his grandson regarding the inner struggle that occurs within each of us. He explained that there are two wolves inside us: one representing evil and the other representing good. The evil wolf embodies negative emotions such as anger, envy, jealousy, doubt, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. On the other hand, the good wolf embodies positive emotions such as joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, forgiveness, truth, compassion, and faith.
The grandson was perplexed and questioned his grandfather, “Which wolf is victorious?” The wise old Cherokee responded with empathy, “The one you feed.”
