I was once advised to forget who I was when I was first imprisoned, but it was terrible advice.
It is only by accepting myself that I have found any comfort.
Now, others tell me to forget that I was ever in prison when I was released, but I know that would be equally disastrous.
It would mean that I would be constantly haunted by a sense of disgrace, and the beauty of nature and life itself would be tainted and lose their power to bring me joy.
To regret one’s own experiences is to stop growing and developing.
To deny one’s own experiences is to lie to oneself and deny one’s soul.
Just as the body can absorb and transform things of all kinds, the soul can transform base and degrade things into noble thoughts and passions.
The soul can reveal itself in its most potent ways through these experiences.🙇
