Cats have a long and tumultuous history regarding humans. Many ancient cultures revered them. Some viewed them as lucky, whereas others admired their natural talents, assigning them to deities and transcending them into godhood. Later they came to be associated with witches and witchcraft, persecuted along with their human counterparts. It was soon apparent that life without cats brings pestilence and disease. Thus, they were reinstated as working animals, never quite domesticated and fully retaining their playful identities. Now they are essential members of the modern family, loved and cherished worldwide.
“Curiosity killed the cat, but Satisfaction brought it back”; this proverb best describes the cat. Curious and intelligent, she reminds us always to retain our playful and inquisitive nature, even as adults. She sits with an allure of mystery, watching her domain with a careful eye. Then she is seen to be effortless in her quiet contemplation as she bathes in the sunlight. She reminds us that we choose our paths and must always be aware of our innate talents but never waste them on those who do not appreciate them.
