On Tuesday, both Israel and Iran agreed to a ceasefire initiative brokered by President Donald Trump, effectively halting their 12-day military conflict that had destabilised the Middle Eastern region. This development follows a series of escalatory actions, including Iran’s limited retaliatory missile strike on a U.S. military installation in Qatar.
The breakthrough came after Iran executed a final missile barrage targeting Israeli positions, resulting in four fatalities early Tuesday. In response, Israel conducted an intensive campaign of airstrikes against various locations across Iran during the pre-dawn hours.
Despite the announcement of the ceasefire, Israel’s military reported detecting additional Iranian missile launches shortly after the cessation of hostilities commenced, underscoring the precariousness of the situation. Sirens were activated in northern Israel, and audible explosions were reported as Israeli air defence systems were engaged to intercept incoming threats.
