I crave a gentle life. I already understand what the hell looks like; more harsh lessons aren’t necessary. Give me soft evenings, sweet as chocolate, and nights that wrap around me like wool. Let’s laugh until we’re in tears with those who make loving us look easy. I want to breathe in the air of the places where I once dreamed of creating memories.
While my hardships have shaped me in beautiful and painful ways, for which I will always be grateful, I desire my days to be full of affection. I want to be formless, someone who flows and moves without worry. Some days, I’m water; other days, I’m lava. Both are real, and both are me. Every version of myself is honest and necessary. Who I am feels safe when respected.
I would rather be a great friend to a few than an acquaintance to many. I want to be widely accepted, but I value deep connections more. I want to be the person others know they can turn to, the person I needed all those years ago. There’s a softness within me that wasn’t always present. It grew from painful, cold, and remorseful places. My softness is my greatest strength. I’m most proud of not allowing myself to be hardened by the things meant to break me.
Now, everyone around me benefits from my light. This way, we all shine together.
