Hot cross buns

These hot cross buns, by cookbook author Thalia Ho, are inspired by the traditional kind, but made with a deepened amount of spice, citrus and an optional dash of rum. If you start the recipe in the afternoon, the dough can rest in the fridge and be shaped and baked in the morning for an extra special breakfast.

Try something different and bake this braided fruit loaf. By Mary Grace Quigley, who describes it as a “giant hot cross bun”, it uses sourdough starter in place of yeast. This recipe takes some time to develop, but the process is largely hands off.
