Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.
Moses was disallowed to enter the land of promise due to his disobedience to God in striking instead of speaking to a rock out of which God brought life-giving water. But God let him see the whole land from Mount Pisgah by the Jordan River. Then Moses was to help Joshua, who would carry on in his place and lead Israel into the ground, while he would pass away and go to his Heavenly home.
