And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:
AMEN

In one sense, we should be followers of "the Lord" (Jesus) alone, but God has also given us godly leaders and teachers whom we do well to emulate. The Thessalonians became followers of Paul insofar as he was a follower of Christ. This occurred when they received the Gospel which Jesus Christ sent Paul to preach. Accepting the Gospel brought them into much trouble outwardly, but inwardly, they could rejoice with a joy given them by the Holy Spirit.

May I be willing to learn from others whom you have placed in my life to help me become a better follower of you, O Lord. If by learning your truths and your ways I must endure suffering of some kind, help me to bear it with joy, knowing that knowing you is more valuable than the pleasures of this life, and so that you can also use me as an example to others. Amen. 🙏
