This passage from John’s Gospel is likely the most well-known, often cited by chapter and verse. It appears on billboards and signs at ballparks; however, Jesus intended it to inspire more than just a simple ticket to paradise. The significance of believing and what that truly means is often overlooked; it’s not just about saying a few words.
As we journey through this Easter season, we must follow Jesus, who embodies our beliefs. Baptism is not merely a one-time event, nor is it enough to proclaim ourselves as believers. The saying “Actions speak louder than words” resonates deeply. Jesus calls us to go beyond verbal affirmation and live out our faith.
Although this can be challenging, it is what Jesus desires from us. Just as Jesus was not sent to judge, we are called to show love rather than judgment. Our mission is to spread the message of God’s saving love, ensuring that salvation is available to all.
In the book of Isaiah, we hear, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news.” The need for messengers of peace and salvation remains, and our message is even more profound than what those in Isaiah’s time conveyed. We carry the good news that salvation has come, as God has sent His Son for everyone. We are privileged to share this transformative message with those who may not have heard it.
