But Peter said to him, “May your money perish with you because you thought that God’s gift could be bought with money.”
Lord, I acknowledge that in my moments of selfishness, I sometimes feel envious of the gifts possessed by great teachers and leaders, wishing that You would make me more like them.
Today, I come before You, asking for Your help to overcome my pride.
Equip me for the work You have called me to do, not for my own sake, but for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Why do we seek God?
Simon the Sorcerer believed he could purchase the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the response he received was quite revealing! His selfish motivations were laid bare through his actions.
Here’s a powerful way to assess our own motives: Are we genuinely seeking to know and fulfil God’s will, or are we attempting to manipulate Him into serving our own desires?
If our pursuit of God is anchored solely in what we hope to gain in this life, it’s time to rigorously reevaluate our intentions.
