God Forgive Me When I Whine
Today, on a bus, I saw a beautiful girl with golden hair.
I envied her; she seemed so happy, and I wished I were fair.
Then suddenly, she rose to leave and hobbled down the aisle.
She had one leg and used a crutch, but as she passed, she smiled.
Oh God, forgive me when I whine. I have two legs, and the world is mine.
I stopped to buy candy, and the boy who sold it was charming.
I talked with him; he seemed so glad. If I were late, it wouldn’t do any harm.
As I left, he said, “Thank you. You have been so ki, nd.
It’s nice to talk with folks like you,” he said, “You see, I’m blind.”
Oh, dear God, grant me grace when I complain; I have two eyes to see—the world is my domain!
Later, while walking down the street, I saw a blue-eyed child.
He stood and watched the others play, unsure what to do next.
I stopped momentarily and said, “Why don’t you join the others, dear?”
He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he couldn’t hear.
Forgive me when I whine; I have two ears; the world is mine.
With feet to take me where I go, with eyes to see the sunset glow,
With ears to hear what I would know,
Forgive me when I whine; I’m blessed indeed; the world is mine.
