God Forgive Me When I Whine
Today, on a bus, I saw a beautiful girl with golden hair.Ā
I envied her; she seemed so happy, and I wished I were fair.Ā
Then suddenly, she rose to leave and hobbled down the aisle.Ā
She had one leg and used a crutch, but as she passed, she smiled.Ā
Oh God, forgive me when I whine. I have two legs, and the world is mine.Ā
I stopped to buy candy, and the boy who sold it was charming.Ā
I talked with him; he seemed so glad. If I were late, it wouldnāt do any harm.Ā
As I left, he said, āThank you. You have been so ki, nd.Ā
Itās nice to talk with folks like you,ā he said, āYou see, Iām blind.āĀ
Oh, dear God, grant me grace when I complain; I have two eyes to seeāthe world is my domain!
Later, while walking down the street, I saw a blue-eyed child.Ā
He stood and watched the others play, unsure what to do next.Ā
I stopped momentarily and said, āWhy donāt you join the others, dear?āĀ
He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he couldnāt hear.Ā
Forgive me when I whine; I have two ears; the world is mine.Ā
With feet to take me where I go, with eyes to see the sunset glow,Ā
With ears to hear what I would know,Ā
Forgive me when I whine; Iām blessed indeed; the world is mine.
