Caring šŸ’„

ā€œWhen you see someone sitting on the floor with their dog on them in public (like in this photo), they aren’t just “cuddling” their dog.

The dog is actively performing a task called deep pressure therapy.

9 out of 10 times, if you see someone like this, they are experiencing some medical episode.

This is not the time to ask them questions, attempt to pet their dog, etc.

At most, ask if the handler is OK and needs anything but nothing more.

This task can help with many different medical issues, but for me, when Levi does this, he helps lower my heart rate and thus helps prevent a fainting episode!

Service dogs are so amazing. They have such big jobs, so it’s so important never to distract them.ā€

CARE WORKERS

Care support dogs, or therapy or emotional support dogs, offer invaluable assistance to needy individuals. These specially trained dogs provide emotional support by alleviating feelings of loneliness and isolation, as well as symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. Interacting with care support dogs can also lead to physical health benefits, including reduced blood pressure and heart rates and decreased levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Moreover, these dogs can aid in improving mental health by helping individuals cope with trauma and PTSD, developing social skills, and reducing social anxiety.

Furthermore, care support dogs encourage individuals to maintain routines and can motivate them to engage in activities, thereby improving their daily functioning. Their non-judgmental companionship offers unconditional love and support, which is particularly beneficial for individuals facing mental health challenges. Additionally, these dogs act as social catalysts, making it easier for individuals to interact with others and build relationships.

Regarding their support, care support dogs undergo specialised training to assist individuals with specific needs, such as guiding visually impaired individuals or alerting those with medical conditions. They are often recognised under various laws, allowing access to places where pets are not usually permitted, such as hospitals or schools. Some dogs are trained to help with everyday tasks, such as retrieving items, opening doors, or providing balance assistance for those with mobility issues. In high-stress situations, therapy dogs can help calm individuals, providing comfort and reducing anxiety. They are also utilised in educational and therapeutic environments to assist in academic programs, aiding children and adults with learning and emotional challenges.

In conclusion, care support dogs are essential in enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing various physical and mental health challenges. Their ability to provide emotional and physical support, promote social interactions, and assist with daily tasks makes them invaluable companions in therapeutic settings and beyond.
