Kensington Palace would not elaborate further but said his wife Kate, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to be doing well.
The Prince of Wales was due to attend a memorial for the late King Constantine of Greece at Windsor Castle.
He personally called the Greek royal family who are attending the service to let them know he was unable to attend.
The late King Constantine of Greece, who died in January last year, was William’s godfather.
It has been a difficult start to 2024 for the royal family, with King Charles diagnosed with cancer earlier this month and the Princess of Wales admitted to hospital for abdominal surgery.
The type of cancer the King is battling has not been revealed to the public, but it was reportedly caught early and the King has been undergoing ‘regular treatments’ ever since.
Nevertheless, the issue has reportedly prompted him to start formalising his succession plans earlier than intended and ensure that Prince William is at the heart of them.
