#AceBreakingNews – A hostage situation at a shopping centre in the German city of Dresden has ended, police say, following reports of shots fired on Saturday morning.

The police operation forced the city’s Christmas markets to be closed, with people urged to avoid an area in the city centre.

Police announced on Twitter that the hostage situation was over and “two outwardly uninjured people” were in their care. 

It was not immediately clear whether the suspect had been arrested.

Earlier, Radio Dresden reported a gunman had tried to enter the building where the broadcaster was based, near the city’s main train station.

The man reportedly fired several shots before fleeing, according to the radio station. 

Dresden police separately confirmed that a 62-year-old woman was found dead in another part of the city on Saturday.

Her 40-year-old son was named as a suspect.

Police declined to confirm whether there was a connection between the killing and the hostage-taking.
