#AceBreakingNews – French Police have arrested a 32-year-old Syrian refugee after he stabbed several children at a playground, according to media reports:

Knife attacker wounds four young children in French alpine town, critically injuring two

Two of the children and an adult are in a life-threatening condition, while police said the other two children are “slightly hurt”.

Police say four children, all around three years old, have been injured in a stabbing attack in the French town of Annecy.

Police arrested a male attacker they said was a Syrian national with legal refugee status in France. 

He was not known to security agencies and his motives were unclear, an investigative source said.

Witnesses said at least one of the children attacked was in a pram, according to Reuters.

“He jumped [in the playground], started shouting and then went towards the strollers, repeatedly hitting the little ones with a knife,” a witness who gave his name as Ferdinand told French media.

“Mothers were crying, everybody was running,” said George, another witness. 

The Associated Press has reported a witness spoke to French media about seeing first-aiders working on “little bodies, three or four years old perhaps”.

At the National Assembly building in Paris, local lawmaker Antoine Armand told the National Assembly that the children were “savagely attacked”.

France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said in a tweet that the attacker had been detained by police. 

“The individual was arrested thanks to very rapid Intervention of police,” he tweeted. 

French President Emmanuel Macron said the attack was “absolute cowardice”.

“The nation is in shock,” he tweeted. 

“Our thoughts are with them as well as their families and emergency services mobilised.”

In Paris, lawmakers interrupted a debate to hold a moment of silence for the victims. 

“There are some very young children who are in critical condition and I invite you to respect a minute of silence for them, for their families, and so that, we hope, the consequences of this very grave attack do not lead to the nation grieving,” assembly president, Yaël Braun-Pivet, said.
