About 8.10am today (Friday 8 March 2024), emergency services were called to a unit on Park Street, Evans Head, following reports of a concern for welfare.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District arrived to find the body of a 60-year-old woman in the boot of a car.

A 39-year-old man – known to the woman – was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina Police Station where he is assisting with inquiries.

The man was charged with murder (DV) and improperly interfere with corpse or human remains.

The man was refused bail and will appear at Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 9 March 2024)
