On Tuesday, I asked the Environment Minister whether the LNP would join Labour’s mission to lock up Australia — wiping out agriculture, killing off real land management, and handing control to bureaucrats and activists.
This radical agenda might look good in a press release, but it spells disaster for regional Queensland.
Locking up millions of hectares will mean a loss of productive land, the lifeblood of our farming and grazing communities. It will lead to more unmanaged countries, increasing the risk of major bushfires and allowing pest animals and invasive weeds to run wild.
It also threatens to cause an economic downturn in regional areas, as productive land use is stripped away and jobs dry up. Local people — including traditional owners and families with generations on the land — will be shut out of decisions, their ecological knowledge sidelined.
Even recreational users won’t be spared. Hunters, campers, and bushgoers face growing access restrictions, as red tape replaces common sense.
This is not about conservation — it’s about control. Queenslanders deserve to know where their government stands.
