Ace Breaking News – Queensland election officially called for October 26 as Steven Miles and David Crisafulli hit the campaign trail

The Labor Party has been trying to get political mileage out of Opposition Leader David Crisafulli, who is living in Brisbane.

The suggestion is that it’s an issue because Mr Crisafulli is the MP for Broadwater, on the Gold Coast.

Despite several recent press conferences locally, his opponent Labor candidate Tamika Hicks says he has been “absent”.

ABC Gold Coast Drive presenter Tom Forbes asked Mr Crisafulli to “categorically explain” his living arrangements. Here’s what he said:

“I was there on the coast and overnighted on the coast on the weekend, since then I’ve been to Ingham, Townsville, Cairns, Harvey Bay, Maryborough and I’m currently speaking to you from back here in Brisbane.

“I am the leader of the opposition and that means I have to balance my time across the state, and indeed with family in Brisbane, but I’ve maintained a presence on the Gold Coast, that’s important.”

Tom Forbes asked if “presence” meant he has somewhere to stay on the Gold Coast.

“That’s right, that’s right,” Mr Crisafulli said.@acenewsservices

Ms Hicks said it’s an issue.

“The people of Broadwater are concerned they don’t see him about,” she said.

“I’m out on the doors every single day, I’m in the electorate every single day talking to constituents … this is the real problem.

But Ms Hicks concedes she doesn’t technically live in the electorate.
