BILLY GOAT CART. REDLAND BAY, QUEENSLAND 1910

We’re all familiar with the term Billy Cart, but perhaps many people wouldn’t realise that it originally referred to ‘Billy Goat’ Carts.

In the early 1900s, particularly in rural areas, Billy Goat Carts were reasonably common-place… as were Billy Goat cart races.

Smaller than horses yet strong, Billy Goats provided the perfect way for youngsters to get around. Here, two children head off to Sunday School in a handsome Billy Goat Cart, wearing their Sunday best.

▪️This shot is from the Redland Bay Area of Queensland, several more below, including a double goat cart.
