#CoronavirusNewsDesk – South Australia records another 2,675 #COVID19 cases amid Easter decline in PCR testing

South Australia’s daily COVID caseload has continued to decline, dropping by more than 1,000 on yesterday’s figure amid a major fall in testing over the Easter weekend.

The state today reported another 2,675 cases — significantly fewer than the 3,749 recorded yesterday.

However, the figure coincided with a 33 per cent fall in the number of people receiving PCR tests yesterday, compared to Good Friday.

Only 7,712 PCR tests were administered on Saturday — down from more than 11,000 on Friday and more than 15,000 on Wednesday.

The latest daily caseload is the first time SA has recorded fewer than 3,000 cases since March 15.

The number of people in hospital has increased by two, to 225, and includes 12 people in intensive care and one on ventilation.

There are currently 30,893 active cases, and there have been 350,464 cases in SA since the start of the pandemic.

No further deaths were recorded in the 24-hour reporting period.

SA Health said genome sampling indicated around 60 per cent of current cases were the BA.2 variant.
