#AceDailyNews Court Report: Prosecutors have dropped serious charges against a former Perth sex worker who was accused of choking and threatening to kill an ex-politician after breaking into his home.
Skye Francis Perry, 44, claimed to have had a three-year relationship with Jim Chown, who was a WA Liberal Upper House member from 2009 to 2021.
A previous hearing in the Perth Magistrates Court was told the relationship started after Ms Perry met Mr Chown when she was working in the sex industry.
The court was told she was no longer a sex worker.
Court heard Skye Perry ‘fixated’ with MP
Ms Perry was first charged in July last year with aggravated home burglary, impeding another person’s breathing and making threats to kill.
A bail hearing at the time was told Ms Perry was arrested at Mr Chown’s home on the day of the alleged offences, with the police prosecutor claiming she was “fixated” on him despite him cutting ties with her 18 months earlier.
The prosecutor also said Mr Chown had been loath to report the matter to police but had become quite afraid of Ms Perry.
The lawyer who represented Ms Perry at the hearing, Hamish Glenister, told the court the reason Mr Chown might be afraid of Ms Perry was because they had “a grubby little affair which might see the light of day should these matters go to trial”.
The three charges she faced were serious and if they proceeded would have ended up in the District Court to be dealt with by a judge and jury.
However, today during a brief appearance, a lawyer from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said the charges were being discontinued because there was “no reasonable prospects of conviction.”
Ms Perry still faces a series of other charges of breaching her bail by allegedly repeatedly trying to contact Mr Chown, which she was banned from doing.
Those remaining 15 charges can be dealt with summarily in the Magistrates Court.
Ms Perry’s bail on those counts was renewed until her next appearance in court in a fortnight.
