The Clock Tower
Alice had always been fascinated by the old clock tower that stood in the center of the town. It was a relic from a bygone era, a reminder of the town’s glorious past. The clock had stopped working decades ago, but no one had bothered to fix it or tear it down. It just remained there, frozen in time, like a silent witness to the changes around it.
Alice often wondered what secrets the clock tower hid inside its walls. She imagined that it was a portal to another world, a world where time stood still and everything was magical. She dreamed of exploring the clock tower, of finding the key that would unlock its mysteries.
One day, she decided to make her dream come true. She waited until nightfall, when the town was asleep, and sneaked out of her house. She ran across the streets, avoiding the streetlights and the occasional car. She reached the clock tower and looked for a way in. She found a small door at the base of the tower, hidden behind some bushes. She tried the handle, but it was locked. She searched for a keyhole, but there was none. She felt a pang of disappointment, but she did not give up. She looked around and noticed a small window above the door. It was too high for her to reach, but she saw a ladder leaning against the wall. She grabbed the ladder and placed it under the window. She climbed up and peered inside. She saw a dark and dusty room, filled with gears and wires. She saw a large clock face, with its hands pointing at 12:00. She saw a lever on the wall, with a sign that read “Do not pull”.
Alice felt a surge of curiosity. She wondered what would happen if she pulled the lever. She wondered if it would make the clock work again, or if it would open the door to another world. She decided to find out. She pushed the window open and crawled inside. She walked towards the lever and reached for it. She hesitated for a moment, but then she pulled it.
She heard a loud click, followed by a whirring sound. She saw the gears and wires come to life, moving and sparking. She saw the clock face light up, and the hands startert to move. She felt a rush of excitement, and then a shock of fear. She realized that she had made a terrible mistake. She had not set the clock in motion, she had stopped it. She had stopped time.
She looked outside and saw that everything was frozen. The cars, the streetlights, the people, everything was still. She saw her own reflection in the window, and saw that she was the only thing that moved. She screamed, but no one heard her. She was trapped in the clock tower, in a place that was frozen in time.
