In the bottom right-hand corner of the paper is a review of the latest radio listening figures, spelling bad news for BBC Radio 2.The Financial Times leads with Donald Trump’s defence lawyer labelling the trial timeline “absurd” as the former president’s lawyer rejects a move to take the 2020 election case to court in a matter of months, ahead of next year’s US presidential contest.Underneath the preview of an story about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Daily Mail’s lead focuses on mounting anger at green power firm Drax – which has been accused of exploiting an energy subsidy loophole to avoid paying £639m back to cash-strapped households.Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau features in the main image on Thursday’s edition of the Daily Telegraph after the 51-year-old announced he and his wife would be separating. The lead story centres on Gwent Police “reviewing” the content of a leaflet about traveller and Gypsy sites which were sent to constituents by the government’s Welsh secretary. David Davies defends the leaflet, arguing the “location of sites was a legitimate matter for public debate”.The Daily Mirror takes aim at comments made by Rishi Sunak blaming striking doctors for rising NHS waiting lists. King Charles waves at the top of the masthead as headline writers tease the wet August weather which is likely to continue.Finally, the Daily Star has a story about a baker who refused to cater for ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley’s 40th birthday in exchange for publicity rather than money. The TV star said she did not know the e-mails had been sent and called the whole affair “bizarre”.
Most of Thursday’s front pages touch on Donald Trump facing his third and most serious set of criminal charges. The former US president is due in a courtroom in Washington after being accused of plotting to overturn the result of the last presidential election.
Several papers also feature Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie after the couple announced their separation after 18 years of marriage.
Elsewhere, the Financial Times says the government will – once again – delay the introduction of full post-Brexit controls on animal and plant products from the EU. Measures were due to come into force in October, but the paper says ministers fear the additional bureaucracy would increase costs when they are trying to cut inflation.

The Daily Telegraph reports Welsh Secretary David TC Davies is being investigated after he sent a leaflet about a proposed traveller site in his constituency. The paper says the Home Secretary Suella Braverman believes the investigation is a waste of time.
