AceDailyNews says here’s todays Newspaper Headlines: Budget nears as ‘ Inheritance Tax Plans ‘ could be AXED by TORIES just for VOTES but RUMOURS OF LANDSLIDE DEFEAT are REVERBERATING throughout the LAND Kindness & Love XX says 🙏🙏’s Lord Thy God for COMMON SENSE in this NATION Amen

The front page of The Times newspaper
A real mix of stories make up the front of the weekend’s papers, with no clear lead standing out. The Times reports that there are plans to scrap inheritance tax, with the paper saying it has been told there are “live” discussions being held on the issue. It notes pre-election tax cuts will be a challenge while inflation rates in the UK remain high.
The front page of the Daily Telegraph
Government plans for school guidelines on the issue of transgender pupils appear on the front of the Daily Telegraph – guidance will be published next week. The paper also carries a story about pressure being put on the government to scrap the so-called ‘tourist tax’, which stops visitors to Britain from outside the EU claiming back 20% VAT on their shopping purchases – a change which came into force in 2021.
The front page of the Daily Mail
The front of the Daily Mail focuses on the challenges being faced by holiday makers heading for mainland Europe this summer. “Families are facing a summer holiday meltdown amid strikes, punishing heatwaves, and price rises,” the paper reports. It writes that “millions of families are now questioning whether an increasingly costly foreign break is worthwhile”.
The front page of the Daily Mirror
The Daily Mirror reports findings of its own poll, in which 53% of respondents said they would like to see Huw Edwards return to presenting the BBC News at Ten, and 32% saying he should not be allowed back to that role.
The front page of the Guardian newspaper
The Guardian carries its own exclusive on a new clinic for gaming addicts, saying it has seen an “unexpected surge in demand”. It reports the National Centre for Gaming Disorders opened in 2020 with the expectation it would treat 50 people a year, but has instead been seeing 30 people a month since the end of March this year.
The front page of the i newspaper
The i newspaper leads on a story about “‘toxic’ levels of lead in school drinking water”. It reports the results of its four-month investigation, saying “few councils in England know which schools have lead pipes”.
The front page of the Daily Express
The Daily Express reports on an “Eco plot to paralyse capital”, saying Just Stop Oil protesters are set to target events in London. It says it attained this information when one of its reporters went undercover with the group, and attended a meeting in London’s Victoria Park.
The front page of the Daily Star
And the Daily Star’s front page focus is on “Blowtorch Brits”, who are continuing to sunbathe despite the high temperatures across Europe. It says “Brits risk getting burned to a crisp” by ignoring high-heat warnings.

The Times says the Conservatives could promise to scrap inheritance tax to win votes at the next general election.

The paper says senior figures in Downing Street are discussing the idea; supporters believe it would be a gamechanger in blue wall seats, in the south of England, that the Tories are defending.

The paper says until now it had been widely assumed that the party would cut the income tax by as much as two pence.

According to the Guardian, Rishi Sunak is to force universities to limit the number of students taking – what he will call – “low-value” degrees in England.

The paper says he will announce a cap for courses that don’t have a high proportion of graduates getting a professional job, going into postgraduate study or starting a business. Vice-chancellors fear the measures will act as “a red flag to students”, who could reject the idea of entering a capped course, feeling it will damage their life chances.

On its front page the Daily Telegraph says the prime minister will next week approve new guidance on trans issues in England

It will advise teachers that any pupil wishing to identify as different gender should first undergo a period of reflection, and that parents must be informed of any such request. According to the paper, the guidance will also say that a boy who self-identifies as a girl will not be able to compete in contact sports with girls, and vice versa.

“Children being exposed to toxic level of lead in school drinking water” is the front-page headline in the i. The paper has obtained results of tap water test from 10 local authorities and five water companies.

They show that more than half a century after lead was banned from plumbing, the toxic metal is still being found in drinking water in schools.

The Financial Times says Russian hackers have hijacked a Polish diplomat’s advert to sell his BMW, and used it to spread malware in an attempt to infiltrate foreign embassies’ networks in Ukraine. The diplomat’s flyer about his car – originally sent to dozens of other embassies in Kyiv this spring – was repurposed and laced with malware. An American cyber security firm described the hackers as “pretty impressive.”

The Times has been told that Defence Secretary Ben Wallace is considering leaving the government in an autumn reshuffle. The paper says he probably won’t stand at the next election, since his constituency of Wyre and Preston North is in effect being dissolved under boundary changes and he hasn’t made any public attempt to become a candidate in another seat.

According to the Daily Mail “families are facing a summer holiday meltdown amid strikes, punishing heatwaves, and price rises.”

The paper highlights eight days of walkouts by Gatwick workers. Almost 4,500 flights are scheduled to take off from the airport over the strike days, carrying up 840,000 passengers.

The Daily Mirror says a poll of its readers has found that 53 per cent of them want to see Huw Edwards back on BBC News at Ten. Thirty-two per cent felt he should not be allowed to continue.
