Several newspapers are reporting on a suspected spyware hack of a phone linked to No 10. The Daily Mail explains the Pegasus software allegedly introduced by “foreign spies” can access and control phones remotely, including turning on the device’s recording software. It adds phones linked to the Foreign Office appear to have been similarly targeted five times.

The Guardian reports that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been warned of the suspected attack on No 10. The paper says the United Arab Emirates is suspected of organising the attack by the Canadian researchers who discovered the apparent breach, while other countries allegedly implicated in hacking the Foreign Office include the UAE, India, Cyprus and Jordan.
Sun front page
Cristiano Ronaldo’s announcement that he and and his partner Georgina Rodriguez lost a son during childbirth leads the Sun. The Manchester United footballer said one of the couple’s twins had died at the weekend, and spoke on Instagram about the pain of their loss, while also revealing their daughter survived the birth, the paper reports.
The Times front page
Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky has said the next phase of the war with Russia has begun, reports the Times. The paper says the Russian military has ramped up attacks on the east of the country, as the Kremlin focuses on the “large scale” assault on the Donbas region.
The i front page
The i also leads with Russia increasing its attacks on Ukraine, reporting fears for refugee escape routes as the western city of Lviv is “rattled by bombs”. The mayor of the city has warned there is “nowhere safe” left and accused Russia of genocide, the paper reports.
Mirror front page
The Mirror says Boris Johnson is facing a “walk of shame” in Parliament, as he faces MPs on Tuesday for the first time since being fined for breaking Covid rules. The paper reports he will address the Commons in a “desperate bid” to move on from the Partygate row, quoting one relative of a person who died of Covid as saying: “If he wants us to move on he should move from office.”
Daily Express front page
The Queen is set to invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join her for the upcoming Jubilee celebrations, the Daily Express reports. The paper says sources have suggested the monarch is “planning to make sure” the wider royal family appear with her join her on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
Metro front page
One million rail fares will be reduced in the spring to help travellers hit by rising cost of living, reports the Metro. The move to slash fares was announced by a sunglasses-wearing Grant Shapps in a “wacky” Youtube video, in which the transport secretary held a crab up to the camera in a bid to encourage more UK tourism, the paper says.
Telegraph front page
Civil servants will be told to stop working from home and return to the office, the Telegraph reports. The paper says ministers have been instructed to send a message to officials about ensuring taxpayer-funded offices are at full capacity, but the plan could be hampered by the civil service unions pushing for “further concessions on flexible working” instead.
Financial Times front page
One of the firms who contributed to the buyout of Asda last year has valued its shares in the supermarket chain as having grown by 20 times, according to the Financial Times. The paper says the private-equity firm TDR Capital claims it stake is now worth £1.4bn, after the supermarket sector and Asda’s profits improved over the last 12 months.
Daily Star front page
Nasa has risked “war with E.T.” after revealing the location of the Earth to the galaxy, warns the Daily Star. An expert has warned the “plan to let aliens know life on Earth exists”could “trigger dangers” like an extra-terrestrial invasion, the paper says.

“Nowhere is safe” reads the i’s front page headline, above an image of smouldering, roofless buildings in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv after being hit by Russian missiles. The paper says the attack has raised new fears for civilians who had considered it a safe haven. 

The Times focuses on Russia’s fresh offensive in the east – where it says Ukrainian forces are “holding the line”, despite losing control of at least one town. 

Several papers report on the families searching for answers about what happened to the crew of the Russian navy’s flagship vessel Moskva after it sank last week. 

The Daily Mail says families are speaking out at the risk of censure or arrest to get to the truth. It reports that one father who’s been searching for his son has denounced Russian claims that all the crew were rescued as “a blatant and cynical lie”. 

The Guardian reports on a mother who had been waiting for news about her son for four days – until she was eventually told yesterday that he had died. She says she has no information about how the 19-year-old conscript died or when his funeral will be. 

“Johnson’s walk of shame” is how the Mirror describes Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s expected appearance in the Commons on Tuesday – when he will address MPs for the first time since being fined for breaking lockdown rules. 

According to the Daily Telegraph, he will offer “a full throated apology”. But Speaker of the House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle is expected to allow a vote on an investigation into whether the PM misled MPs.

The Sun is among the papers to report that one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s newborn twins died during delivery at the weekend. The paper says the footballer told the world about the loss of his son in an “emotional outpouring” on social media. He spoke of being in “the greatest pain”, but said his surviving daughter was giving him strength.

Several papers report claims by cyclist Bradley Wiggins that he was sexually groomed by a coach as a young teenager. In an interview with Men’s Health magazine, the Tour de France winner explains that he buried the ordeal and was unable to fully accept what had happened until recently. 

The Daily Telegraph reports that the government may scrap the green levy, which is added to energy bills to fund subsidies for renewables. The paper says it would reduce the average bill by £153 at a time when people are struggling to cope with the rising cost of living.

The Daily Express says it’s the Queen’s “greatest wish” for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to be part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The paper says she’s understood to want her wider family to appear with her on the Buckingham Palace balcony in June – opening up the possibility that her disgraced son, Prince Andrew, could join in as well
