#AceDailyNews says here’s todays Newspaper Headlines: Todays main headlines centre on closing of ALL Embassy’s in Ukraine and people being told to LEAVE the country NOW
Feb.12, 2022: @AceDailyNews

Daily Telegraph’s headline. Taking up a large portion of the front page is a photo of a Ukrainian marine standing in a trench on the new front line near Shyrokyne, Donetsk. Jake Sullivan, White House national security adviser, said that any Russia attack is likely to start with aerial bombing and missile strikes, which had the potential to kill civilians “without regard to their nationality”. “The Russians are in a position to mount a major military action in Ukraine any day now,” he said.

Joe Biden has summoned transatlantic leaders to discuss the crisis, the FT Weekend reports, as embassies step up warnings for their citizens to leave Kyiv. The paper reports Mr Sullivan has said there is a “credible prospect” of Russia launching an attack on Ukraine before the end of the Winter Olympics in Beijing on 20 February. Russia could make the move as early as next week, Washington believes.
“Get out!” is the headline dominating the front of the Daily Mirror, as the paper shares warnings from the Foreign Office, which urged citizens to travel “via commercial means while they remain available”. The paper adds that Mr Johnson has told Nato leaders to reinforce the alliance’s eastern frontier.
The latest advice from the Foreign Office came shortly after Defence Secretary Ben Wallace flew out of Moscow following talks with senior Kremlin figures, the Times reports. Mr Wallace has said that he was informed that Russia had “no intention” of invading Ukraine. Thousands of Britons are believed to be in the country, the paper adds. Meanwhile, US President Biden has said “things could get crazy very quickly”.
The Daily Express also leads on what it calls “invasion fears”. Despite Russia massing more than 100,000 troops near the Ukrainian border, Moscow has repeatedly denied any plans to invade. Russia has instead accused Western countries of spreading false information.
Moving away from events in Ukraine, the Guardian leads with reports that the Treasury is pushing for nearly all free Covid testing to end as soon as next month in a bid to save billions. It comes despite warnings from public health experts and scientists, according to the paper. The department wants to end most PCR testing for people with Covid symptoms – possibly by the end of March – sources have told the paper. The government told the paper there were no plans to stop free tests when regulations expire.
Senior Conservative MPs have told the PM not to attempt to “cling to power” if the police investigation into lockdown parties finds that he broke Covid laws, the i weekend reports. Former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith has told the paper that Mr Johnson’s future is in doubt if he is given a police fine.
Elsewhere, the Sun’s front page centres on the ongoing libel battle between Rebekah Vardy and Coleen Rooney. The paper says it carries texts from Mrs Vardy as part of the now-infamous “Wagatha Christie” case.
Looking far beyond any borders on Earth, the Daily Star says economists believe the Moon should be privatised to help eradicate poverty. “One giant leap for Moonkind” is the paper’s headline.
BBC News
“Britons told to get out of Ukraine now” is the headline across several front pages, including the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and the Times.
The FT Weekend, Independent and Daily Express focus on fears of a Russian invasion.
The Daily Telegraph highlights the claim by the US that military action could happen “any day now”.
A government source tells the Times that “next week” is now “the working assumption”.
The paper describes a phone call last night between Boris Johnson and other world leaders as “deeply sobering”.
The FT reports that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is enlisting up to two-million civilians in a new territorial defence force, under military command.
Thousands of Russian troops were taking part in joint military exercises in Belarus, which borders Ukraine
The Guardian says the Treasury is pushing for almost all free Covid testing to end, despite expert warnings.
A health source tells the paper public health leaders were “blindsided” when briefed about the proposals, which include scrapping almost all PCR tests, while charging for most lateral-flow ones.
The Guardian says government scientists have warned this would make it harder for people to take precautions – while increasing anxiety among clinically vulnerable groups.
The Daily Mail reports that Home Secretary Priti Patel is looking as far afield as the US or Australia for a successor to the Met Police Chief, Cressida Dick.
British policing’s top job must go to the best candidate – its leader column argues – wherever they are.
But how, it wonders, will this affect what it calls the mayor of London’s “left-wing ideology” of “policing our thoughts”.
It was telling, the Daily Mail notes, that Sadiq Khan forced Dame Cressida to quit for failing to tackle “racism, sexism, homophobia, bullying and misogyny”.
But what about the police’s “core job”, it asks, of fighting crime?
An editorial in the Times calls for a commission on policing throughout Britain.
It says this should clarify the “dual role” the Met Commissioner plays – both as the policing head for Greater London, and also the national agency for dealing with terrorism.
And the i weekend reports that Mr Johnson has been told not to try to cling to power by top Tories – including a former leader, Sir Iain Duncan Smith – if police fine him for breaking Covid laws.
The Telegraph says he will mount a “robust defence” to the questionnaire sent by the Met about lockdown parties – and argue that his Downing Street flat “can be a workplace”.
The i weekend adds some of the prime minister’s other colleagues remain “astonished” by his political survival.
One comments: “If I ever get invited to his funeral, I’m going to lift the lid of that coffin, to make sure he’s in there”.
