#AceDailyNews says here’s todays Newspaper Headlines: Zero shame” is the Mirror’s description of the PM’s handling of the “fallout” from Ms Gray’s update. The paper highlights the Metropolitan Police investigating 12 “lockdown bashes” at No 10.

The Daily Mail reports on a “national clamour” for the Gray report to be published in full, describing the UK as “in limbo” until it is released. The paper describes Monday’s update as “flimsy”, given the 500 pages of written evidence, 300 photos and 70 witness interviews led to just 12 pages being published.

The PM is personally subject to a police investigation for events he was “directly involved in”, according to the Times. The papers adds that on Monday Ms Gray told Mr Johnson she expects her report to be published in full.

The Guardian also focuses on the police investigation, highlighting the photos handed to officers. The paper says the images include pictures taken at the alleged parties, as well as CCTV footage from No 10 showing people entering and exiting the building.

The Telegraph reports the prime minister will ask Sue Gray to produce a fresh report into allegations of parties in Downing Street. The paper says Mr Johnson is seeking to “quell growing anger” among his own MPs, with Downing Street confirming the senior civil servant will write a second update, but the timing or content of that report supplementary remains unclear.

The i says Mr Johnson was “forced to apologise” and “plead” for his job to MPs. The paper describes the report as being “muzzled” by the police investigation and highlights former PM Theresa May’s “extraordinary” attack on the prime minister, when she asked if he “had not read the rules or did not understand them”.

The Financial Times describes the PM’s response to the report as “stumbling”, adding Mr Johnson is “battling a renewed Conservative threat” to his premiership, which has been “rekindled” by the findings. One “normally loyal” long-serving Tory MP tells the paper the PM’s response was awful, adding they were “considering my position” overnight.

However, while the Daily Express says the PM “got it wrong” and calls for him to “get it right” in the future, the paper say Mr Johnson has won “vital support” from sceptics in the Conservative Party. The paper says he told MPs “Covid nearly killed me” and promised “sweeping changes” in Downing Street.

“Mamma Mia” headlines the Sun, in a reference to popstar Rihanna’s pregnancy announcement, as well as to an alleged “Abba party” being one of the events being investigated. The paper also highlights the “police grilling” faced by the PM over the lockdown events.

All the papers lead on Sue Gray’s update into her “partygate” investigation.

The Daily Star headlines with “50 Shades of Gray”, in a reference to the erotic novel series. The paper describes the PM as having been “humiliated” by the police investigation and the “brutal” report, adding “apparently some people pay good money for these kinds of shenanigans”.

“Now publish the whole damn thing” demands the Daily Mail, arguing the release of a “flimsy 12-page update” has raised more questions than answers. The paper says no-one is named, no-one is shamed and no-one is blamed, adding that the report may have bought Prime Minister Boris Johnson some time – but has also left a sword of Damocles hanging over his head until police finish their inquiries. 

The Times says detectives are examining least four lockdown gatherings which it says Mr Johnson was directly involved in. The paper says it believes it is inevitable fresh revelations will emerge, as officers have been handed 500 pages of evidence and 300 photographs. 

“Mamma Mia!” headlines the Sun, referring to the Metropolitan Police probe into an event at the Downing Street flat, which reportedly saw Abba songs being played loudly on the night Dominic Cummings left his role as chief adviser. The paper also criticises Labour, Liberal Democrat and SNP MPs, arguing they became so “demented by rage” that their attacks on the PM in the Commons fell flat. However, the Sun adds it thinks Mr Johnson also lost the plot.

The Guardian describes a “wall of anger” faced by the PM from Conservative MPs. It quotes an unnamed Tory saying Mr Johnson’s determination to keep fighting means removing him would be “extremely painful”, causing “huge damage” to the party in the process.

The Financial Times states the Gray report is further proof of Boris Johnson being unfit for office. It believes his “bombastic performance in the Commons debate was shameless and disingenuous – a clear sign the character of the man in charge will stay the same”.

The Daily Mirror says Mr Johnson has “zero shame” after again refusing to quit. In an opinion column, the paper suggests the “update” from Sue Gray did not provide the “judgement day” – which it thinks both the public and MPs were “eagerly awaiting”.
